ATLANTA - It is one of the busiest days for holiday travel but weather conditions around the world could make things difficult.

While Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be some of the busiest days for Hartsfield-Jackson, contrary to popular belief te summer months are even busier but the delays are much worse over the winter months because of weather.

If you're jetting off to see family for the holidays or have family coming in schedule in some time for delays.

The air transport association expects an average of two million people a day to fly during the Christmas and New Year holidays and the group says your chances of flight delays rises significantly. Not because of volume but because of weather: snow, sleet, and floods.

There's flooding out west and so much snow in Colorado the roads are already getting treacherous. Interstate 70 in Vail was shut down and forecasters are predicting up to eight feet by Thursday.

It's not just in the United States. It would be a Christmas miracle for travelers in Europe to make it to their destinations on time. Since the weekend, snow and freezing temperatures have grounded flights in and out of London. Thousands of people have been sleeping on benches and floors.

"Surreal. But the biggest problem you cannot find anybody who can give you some information. I can't find anybody from our own airline," said one passenger.

To make your holiday travels a little less stressful, Hartsfield-Jackson has a few tips:

  • Arrive 90 minutes before your flight leaves for domestic travel and two hours before an inteational flight.
  • Check security wait times and parking availability online at www.atlanta-airport.com
Remember the baggage rules: one bag, plus one carry-on per person.

It won't change the weather but it could help you get through Hartsfield-Jackson a bit easier.

Another tip to ease your way through the airport -- sign up for track-a-flight. You'll get updated flight information delivered to your email or cell phone.
