Atlanta Hawks trade Kristaps Porzingis to Golden State Warriors
ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks traded center Kristaps Porziņģis to the Golden State Warriors in a deal agreed to Wednesday night, continuing a roster reshaping ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
Golden State will receive Porziņģis, a 7-foot-2 stretch center who averaged 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds this season but appeared in only 17 games because of injuries and illness. Porziņģis, 30, was acquired by Atlanta last summer but never fully settled into the Hawks’ rotation.
Atlanta will receive forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield. Kuminga, 21, has averaged 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds this season while dealing with a knee injury and was the subject of trade speculation after requesting a move in January. Hield provides veteran shooting depth and has averaged double-figure scoring in each of the past six seasons.
The Hawks also acquired center Jock Landale in a separate move involving the Utah Jazz, adding frontcourt depth following Porziņģis’ departure. The trade was reported Wednesday but had not yet received league approval.
Atlanta entered the deadline outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture and has signaled a willingness to retool around a younger core. Kuminga fits that timeline, while Hield’s expiring contract could provide financial flexibility or additional trade options this offseason.
For Golden State, the move addresses a need for size and frontcourt scoring as the Warriors push to remain competitive in the Western Conference playoff race. Porziņģis gives the Warriors a floor-spacing big man to complement their perimeter-heavy offense, though his durability remains a concern.
Both teams were expected to remain active ahead of the deadline as they balance short-term competitiveness with long-term roster planning.
