SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Dillon Brooks of the Phoenix Suns was arrested in Scottsdale on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a report from TMZ.

TMZ reports that Brooks was taken into custody around 2 a.m. on March 6 and released roughly an hour later.

“We’re told he was respectful and cooperative before being released,” TMZ stated.

In a statement to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Suns said:
“We are aware of the situation involving Dillon Brooks and are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”

Later that afternoon, the Scottsdale Police Department released body camera footage showing the arrest.

In the video, an officer tells Brooks he detected the smell of marijuana. Brooks responded that he had not smoked or consumed alcohol in the past six months. The officer then remarked that the vehicle smelled like a dispensary.

Additional officers arrived on scene, and Brooks participated in a series of field sobriety tests, including balancing on one foot, tracking an object with his eyes, and walking heel-to-toe in a straight line. He appeared cooperative throughout the process.

Following a breathalyzer test, officers placed Brooks in handcuffs.

Brooks has been sidelined for several weeks with a hand injury. He joined Phoenix as part of the blockbuster trade involving Kevin Durant.

The Suns, currently 35–27, are in the middle of the Western Conference playoff race. Phoenix fell to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.

Team officials reiterated that they are monitoring the situation and gathering additional details.
