24-year-old shows up at French hospital with a century-old shell stuck where the sun doesn’t usually shine — bomb squad called

A French emergency room got more than its usual share of drama early Sunday when a 24-year-old man hobbled in complaining of pain — and medical staff soon discovered a World War I artillery shell lodged in his rectum, according to discussions on social platforms reporting on the event.

The atypical “patient-reported foreign object” prompted doctors to call in bomb disposal experts, who assessed the nearly 100-year-old explosive before safely removing it so surgeons could proceed.

Firefighters, police and ordnance teams were reportedly involved out of caution, but sources say the device posed no imminent detonation risk.

Local authorities are now considering weapons-law violations as part of their follow-up — because if you’re going to mix military history with modern medicine, there’s always paperwork.
