Waterbuck Gives Birth at Zoo Atlanta
Zoo Atlanta officials are busy welcoming a brand new resident. They say a female waterbuck gave birth to a calf oveight on Sunday.
The new baby waterbuck was bo to Kokopelli, a 9-year-old current zoo resident. The newbo appears to be healthy and has been seen nursing and following Kokopelli in their African Plains habitat at the zoo, officials say.
Found throughout southeaste sub-Saharan Africa, waterbuck are among the world’s largest antelope species. The species name refers to the fact that waterbuck are often found near water sources, are good swimmers, and possess oily, ”waterproof coats.
This newbo is Kokopelli’s fifth offspring with 8-year-old Arizona. It is also a new neighbor for a 1-month-old giraffe calf who was bo on July 13.
