Marion Jackson Compton: Georgia woman, 70, charged with murder in 77-year-old husband's shooting death
CARLTON, Ga. — A 70-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the shooting death of her 77-year-old husband, authorities said.
Marion Jackson Compton was taken into custody at a home in the 7000 block of Highway 72 East after deputies responded to a call around 8:15 p.m., according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, they found Gregory Waco Compton inside the living room suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators said Marion Compton shot her husband with a handgun. The couple was married and lived together at the residence.
She has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, elder abuse, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Compton was transported to the Madison County Jail, where she remained without bond as of Wednesday evening.
Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case and have not said whether deputies had previously been called to the home.
It is also unclear whether Compton has obtained legal representation or when she will make her first court appearance. Officials have not identified who placed the initial 911 call.
