LOGANVILLE, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County highway was shut down Thursday moing as firefighters and utility crews dealt with a huge water main break.

Emergency workers evacuated a mobile home park on Highway 78 near Langley Road.

The water department was waiting on some heavy equipment so they could break ground to start repairing the broken water main.

”We’ve got an approximately a 48-inch to 60-inch water main under Highway 78, going down Langley Road, that’s been compromised, said Battalion Chief Jeff Norton of the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Gwinnett County fire and police shut down the highway in both directions. They also fear residents could experience flooding, so they decided to take extra precautions.

”We’re evacuating residents from a mobile home park, south of Highway 78 off Langley Road, said Norton.

Norton said water was out at Eastside Medical Center for a short time, but has since been restored.

Norton said the road will be shut down until further notice.
