Sandy Springs Couple Irene and Jamal Mickens Found Dead In Murder Suicide

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A man and woman were found dead in a Sandy Springs home Wednesday moing, according to the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Around 10 a.m., Irene and Jamal Mickens were found at a 19th-floor condo in the Park Towers complex on Hammond Drive. The couple was married but separated, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Steve Rose. Irene Mickens was last seen arriving at the condo Tuesday.

Police believe the children, 7-year-old Evan and 5-year-old Ava, were with their father Tuesday before the couple was found dead, Rose said. They were not in the home when police arrived, Rose said.

”What we’ve done now is we’ve initiated a search in this direct premises, and we will widen that search as we go on, Rose said.

Police later found the children with a relative.

Irene Mickens previously filed a family violence complaint against her husband in March 2009. It resulted in a temporary restraining order but was dismissed the next month. She also filed for divorce in April, but it was dismissed two months later.
