RABUN COUNTY, Ga. — A 52-year-old Rabun County man has been arrested and charged in an investigation involving the alleged assault of a disabled adult, authorities said.

Robert Early Moon faces felony charges including aggravated assault and exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult, according to the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office. He also is charged with battery and criminal trespass involving property damage.

The investigation began Jan. 21 after deputies responded to a reported assault near the 1200 block of Old Highway 441 South, authorities said. Deputies documented visible injuries and interviewed the victim, investigators said, later alleging additional acts of violence that included strangulation and sexual assault.

Moon was arrested at his home Jan. 29 and booked into the Rabun County jail, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Mark Gerrells praised deputies and investigators in a statement and noted the charges are allegations and Moon is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Authorities have not disclosed Moon’s relationship to the victim, whether the victim was under his professional care, whether a weapon was used or whether there may be additional victims. It was not immediately clear whether Moon remained in jail or had an attorney.
