Putnam County deputy Barak Wood shot, suspect Donovan Dann arrested

A Putnam County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being shot in the line of duty Wednesday night.

Deputy Barak Wood was shot twice while responding to a call in the Lake Sinclair area, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.

The suspect, Donovan Ray Dann, was taken into custody after the shooting. He is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

The sheriff says deputies were responding to the scene after Dann had assaulted a woman identified as his girlfriend and a babysitter. According to Sheriff Sills, Dann will likely face additional charges of aggravated assault and cruelty to children as a result.

Deputy Wood was taken to Putnam General Hospital. He is expected to recover, according to the sheriff.
