Powder Springs Woman Melissa Wituka Arrested After Toddlers Found Living In Hot, Filthy Conditions
POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- A Powder Springs woman accused of keeping her two daughters, ages 3 and 4, in filthy conditions remains in jail.
But friends of Melissa Wituka are coming to her defense, saying officers did not know the entire story.
”She’s a damn good mother, said family friend Marcus Aold.
But police disagree and said when they responded to an anonymous call, they found the toddlers in an apartment with no electricity on a 90-degree day.
Aold claims Wituka had brought her two daughters to visit their grandmother and that she actually lives elsewhere.
But police told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt that they believe the family was living in the apartment. Besides no air conditioning, a warrant states that officers found the apartment in filthy and unsanitary condition. According to the warrant, there were roaches crawling in the kitchen and the entire unit smelled of rotted food and urine. The kids’ mattress was also stained with urine and food, the warrant stated.
Wituka’s kids were initially placed in state custody and are now reportedly with other relatives.
