GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A strange smell coming from a 5-year-old girl’s clothing led to an unusual discovery in the child’s backpack, police said.

Gwinnett County police said when the child got on a school bus, the driver said she smelled something ”funny on the child’s clothing.

When the driver mentioned it to the child, police said the 5-year-old pulled a bag of marijuana from her backpack and told the driver her mother put it there. There were 10 small baggies of marijuana packaged for sale inside the girl’s backpack, police said.

Police obtained a search warrant at an address provided by the child’s mother during an unrelated traffic stop the day before. Police said the apartment, located in the 2100 block of Preston Park Drive in Duluth, belonged to the child’s uncle, Eaest Boyd.

Investigators said they found clonazapam pills and two grams of crack cocaine inside the apartment.

The child’s mother, Taneisha Lewis, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. Boyd was charged with possession of cocaine.
