Paramedics Teresa Davis, Randall Whiddon and patient killed in south Georgia ambulance wreck

Two paramedics and their patient were killed early Thursday when an ambulance collided with a jackknifing tractor-trailer on a south Georgia highway, authorities said.

The crash happened about 5 a.m. on Ga. 32 in Irwin County.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young said the tractor-trailer and a passenger car were headed westbound on the two-lane road when the eastbound ambulance from Coffee County approached with lights and siren activated.

”The passenger car began pulling off the roadway to yield to the approaching ambulance, Young said. ”The tractor-trailer jackknifed across the center line and into the path of the ambulance.

There were two paramedics and a patient in the ambulance, and all were killed, according to Young.

She identified the driver of the ambulance as Teresa Ann Davis, 44, of Axson, and the second paramedic as Randall Whiddon, 56, of Ashbu.

The patient was identified as Charles Arvin Smith, 65, of Tifton.

The truck driver was Rockwell Lott of Tifton, Young said.

She said that the GSP’s Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating, and charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

Irwin County is between Macon and Valdosta, about 190 miles south of Atlanta
