Mother dies in Douglas Co. mobile home fire
Fire consumed a mobile home in Douglas County early Tuesday. Firefighters said it was too late to save one woman by the time they arrived.
”We brought every personnel and piece of equipment we had in the area. We were unable to rescue the person in the house, Douglas County spokesman Wes Tallon said.
Neighbors of the home on Riverside Drive called 911 around 1:45 a.m., saying the home was engulfed in flames, Tallon said. He said it was occupied by a woman and her adult son. Tallon said the son came running out of the home with severe bus all over his upper body.
”The son was outside. He was but and everything, neighbor Debra Screws said. ”He was going, ‘My mom, My mom.’ You could hear her hollering.
The man was rushed to Grady Hospital with serious injuries, but his mother didn’t make it. The woman’s body was found next to her dog, who also died in the fire, Tallon said.
"All of our first responders were here within five minutes. We did what we could to get in there, but you just feel horrible when you lose anyone," He said.
A state fire marshal at the scene was looking into the cause of the fire.
