Georgia mom Ebony Berry to serve 30 years in prison for daughter's starvation death
A mother accused of starving her 16-year-old to death pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday in a plea deal.
Cobb County police said they found the body of Ebony Berry's daughter, Markea, inside a home on Concord Road in June 2012.
Markea was severely malnourished and neglected, according to police.
During the hearing, prosecutors said Markea kept a joual detailing her starving herself.
Prosecutors said Berry never took her daughter to the hospital for malnourishment.
Berry pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge and two other charges of cruelty to children.
She was sentenced to 30 years in prison, minus two served, and 10 years probation, which she will start immediately.
She is also not to have any contact with children until she is 77 years old, including those that may be in public.
Berry has three other children that are in the care of a family member in Michigan.
