Ga. Unemployment Rate Stands At 10.4 Percent
ATLANTA - State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 10.4 percent in January, matching its all-time high.
The December rate was originally reported as a preliminary 10.2 percent but has been revised to 10.4 percent in figures announced Thursday. The state’s jobless rate was also 10.4 percent in January 2010.
Butler describes Georgia's job market as flat, and he said the number of long-term unemployed has increased significantly.
In January, there were 3,772,100 payroll jobs in Georgia, up 2,200, or one-tenth of a percentage point, from 3,769,900 in January 2010. There were 262,700 long-term unemployed Georgians in January, representing more than half of the 484,668 jobless.
