Drug, alcohol counselor Ron Verlander arrested on DUI charges
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- An Alpharetta man whose business is supposed to help recovering drug addicts and alcoholics has been arrested for DUI.
Cherokee County investigators said Ron Verlander was driving on the wrong side of the road, could not maintain his lane and had an open container in his vehicle.
According to arrest records he was booked on June 24 and just released Aug. 27.
Channel 2’s Carl Willis went to the address listed with Verlander's company name: NOAH, which stands for National Organization for Addiction Healing.
Tus out it is a residence in Alpharetta.
When confronted about his arrest, Verlander said he had no comment.
A woman who did not give her name told Wilis she helped start the nonprofit with Verlander.
"He's an alcoholic," she said.
She claimed that's why the company never got a chance to work with addicts.
However, their company's website is still up and running, and soliciting business from faith-based organizations.
Willis asked if Verlander ever accepted donations.
"I appreciate you coming by to talk, but I'm not interested in talking," Verlander responded.
According to the company's website, NOAH is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
The mission statement suggests that the company raises funds for the purpose of helping men and women recover from alcohol and drug addiction.
The unidentified woman claimed that she did not know the website was still online.
