DEA Atlanta: $23M In Drug Money Seized
ATLANTA -- Drug Enforcement Administration Atlanta recently seized $23 million in drug money, DEA Atlanta Special Agent Chuvalo Truesdell said.
Channel 2’s Jeff Dore attended news conference where several law enforcement agency heads discussed the significance of the seizure in downtown Atlanta on Thursday moing.
The investigation, Operation Four Horsemen, also yielded more than 1,200 pounds of cocaine, Truesdell said. The money came out of forfeiture and $8 million has been shared with five local agencies, Truesdell said.
Fortunately this was just the icing on the cake that we got money back," Lawrenceville police Chief Randy Johnson said.
The Lawrenceville Police Department received more than $2 million in the bust.
Truesdell said the money was seized from a violent Atlanta-based Mexican drug trafficking organization. He said millions of dollars were seized from an ”unlikely conveyance. Authorities said they stopped shipments from Atlanta, headed towards areas along the easte United States.
