Cherokee County man Nicholas Campbell charged in death of girlfriend's 24-day-old daughter

Cherokee sheriff's detectives have arrested a Woodstock man in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 24-day-old daughter.

Nicholas Campbell, 26, was arrested Friday and is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Ciara Campbell died after being taken off life support Sunday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Cherokee sheriff's deputies responded to Magnolia Springs Drivelate Thursday for a child not breathing call. 

The child was transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital by Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services and then to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta early Friday moing.

Multiple injuries to the infant were discovered.

After police interviewed Nicholas Campbell, the mother and grandmother, Nicholas Campbell was placed under arrest.

Nicholas Campbell is charged with four counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of aggravated battery and possession of methamphetamine.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Additional charges are possible as this case remains under investigation.
