Carroll County teacher Sydney Sewell accused of having sexual contact with student

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A Carroll County teacher is accused of having sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student

Sydney Sewell, 25, a chorus teacher at Central High School, tued herself in on Monday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She is facing sexual assault charges, Chief Deputy Brad Robinson with The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said

The investigation began after school administrators received a tip about the month long sexual relationship between the teacher and the student and relayed it to the police.

"We assigned a couple investigators to the case, were able to conduct some interviews and quickly put together that there had been an on-going relationship between the teacher and a 16-year-old male student," Richards said.

The investigation has not been completed, but officials believe the relationship began in January and continued into March.

"We've only identified one victim, but I believe there might be more than one location, or jurisdicition, so we are in the process of reaching out and working with other people," Richards said.

The Carroll County Schools System released a statement regarding the incident:

    On Wednesday, March 22, a conce was brought to the Carroll County School District alleging that a teacher at Central High School had an inappropriate relationship with a student. The District took this conce very seriously and immediately contacted the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a thorough investigation. The teacher has resigned her position at Central High School and the investigation continues. Student safety is our top priority, and we will continue to work with law enforcement to take all appropriate steps regarding this matter.
