Police say a body found in a bued vehicle in Athens Wednesday afteoon has been identified as an Atlanta woman.

The vehicle was located in the 1300 block of Winterville Road, according to police.

Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Darla Gibbons. Investigators say the bued car belonged to Gibbons.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in the investigation.



The GBI Medical Examiner's Office says that the manner of death was homicide.

Investigators believe Gibbons may have been in Athens visiting relatives.

Police are asking anyone who saw or spoke with Gibbons recently to contact the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
