Black Ice Glazes Metro Roads
ATLANTA -- After oveight temperatures dipped into the teens and 20s across metro Atlanta, black ice complicated Friday’s moing commute.
"Anything that melted out there oveight refroze. No doubt about it," Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist David Chandley said.
Residents were cautioned to drive carefully because black ice cannot be seen.
”If you saw surface street icing yesterday, you are likely to see it in the same places this moing, Channel 2’s Mark Arum said.
Arum said the area above the Interstate 20 corridor would be especially treacherous. He advised drivers to wait until there was more sunshine, ideally around 10 a.m., to hit the roads.
Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologists brought good news, saying a significant warm-up was headed toward the region.
"It means a lot of folks are going to be able to escape and get out a little bit for today, finally," Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
She said temperatures would top the freezing mark around noon. She said the metro region would see temperatures in the high 30s and 40s.
