Atlanta Metro Police Shoots 19-Year-Old Man in the back three times
A MARTA police officer shot a 19-year-old man in a train station near the Georgia Dome late Saturday night, authorities say. The man later died of his injuries.

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed by a MARTA officer in a train station near the Georgia Dome late Saturday night. The man later died of his injuries.

MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said the shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. Saturday in the Vine City station.

The victim was identified by Family members as Joe Stafford. His brother, Rodney Stafford, told the local TV station FOX 5 that his little brother didn’t deserve to die. He said Joe was involved in a fight at the Vine City MARTA station when police responded and he was confronted.

Rodney Stafford said his brother was shot in the back three times. His family is questioning why he was shot, and many of them gathered at the shooting scene late Saturday.

The officer involved in the shooting has not been identified. He was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard after such a shooting. A spokesman at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is handling the case, declined to comment.
