Atlanta Metro area under flash flood watch today

ATLANTA -- Metro Atlanta was under a flash flood watch Monday in light of heavy showers in the forecast.

The affected areas stretched from the north Georgia mountains to south Fulton County. The watch was set to last through Tuesday moing.

”There will be heavy downpours throughout the next 24 hours, Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Three to 5 inches of rain were expected to fall in the metro area, with higher totals in northe parts of the state. The clouds and showers would bring the temperatures down to the 70s, Minton said.

The flood watch was a conce for residents still rebuilding from the historic flooding of 2009. Residents said they were haunted by memories of being trapped under water and would be ready for the worst.

”If the water comes up, I’m going to get in the car, like I did before, take my little doggies and go, Austell resident Barbara Richardson told Channel 2’s Amanda Cook.

Minton said the showers would taper off Tuesday night.
