2 Dekalb County officers, suspect shot

Two DeKalb County police officers and a suspect were shot early Friday moing in an incident in DeKalb County.

The shooting took place around 6:45 a.m. at 195 Highcourt Place near the city of Decatur.

Investigators say the officers were responding to a reported home invasion armed robbery. They were immediately fired upon and retued fire.

The two wounded officers were transported to Atlanta Medical Center, and a suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Investigators say the officers' injuries are non-life threatening. One officer was shot in the thigh and the other was shot in the calf.

Police say an active search is taking place for a second suspect.

As a result of the shooting, DeKalb County school officials confirm that Columbia High, DeKalb Prep. Academy, Snapfinger Elementary and Towers High School are on lockdown at the request of DeKalb Police. DeKalb County Schools took to Twitter shortly after 9:30 a.m. and announced students are "safe and following a normal class schedule."
