Dekalb County police say a woman was rushed to a local hospital Sunday after she was shot during an apparent robbery in Lithonia. It happened in front of a gas station in the 5900 block of Fairington Road.

On Monday, police said Marcaysia Dawkins, 19, died from her injuries.

Surveillance video shows the woman walking into Marathon gas station and buying some items. A short time later while sitting on a bench at the bus stop, she is approached by an unidentified man. The man sits next to the woman and they talk before he attempts to take something from her. The video shows the woman fighting with the man before he shoots her and takes off running.

"I heard two shots, and I just ran to the window to check to see what was happening outside," said Faiz Lakhani, who works at the Marathon gas station.

The woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police said the shooter remains on the loose.
