Villa Rica man Chase Mayfield back home after pool hall beating

A young local dad is finally home with his family after spending weeks recovering from a nearly deadly beating.

Chase Mayfield was attacked outside a bar in Villa Rica. Police say three men beat him so savagely that they left him in a coma.

From the scars on his scalp to an altered outlook on life, Mayfield said that the experience has changed his life.

"I don't feel the same person anymore," Mayfield said.

Investigators say Mayfield was stomped and punched unconscious by three men outside of a Villa Rica restaurant and pool hall early one moing in April. He was left bleeding in the parking lot.

"Just going up there to hang out for a little while -- never thought something like that was going to happen. It disappoints me, really," Mayfield said.

The 21-year-old doesn't remember the beating. His family sat by his hospital bed as he slept in an induced coma, overcoming brain trauma, body system shutdowns and dangerous fevers.  

"I guess I just really feel relieved that he doesn't remember so he's just more worried about his kids, his family and stuff, instead of worry about the wrong things," said Cody Mayfield,' Chase's brother.

The father of two young children also doesn't remember words and details like he once did.  He's undergoing memory and physical therapy -since it now hurts to walk.  He calls that pain proof that he survived.

He wears a yellow "Team Chase" bracelet as a reminder of the support both neighbors and strangers showed. His family believes that support made all the difference:

Chase said that he's focusing on healing and not the three men arrested for the attack - now out on bond.

"I don't want to see them, got nothing to say to them, ever. Just going to keep being strong like I am," he said.

A fundraiser is planned next month to help Mayfield with expenses from the hospital and other things he will need in the future.
