VIDEO: MARTA bus taken on joyride
ATLANTA -
Two teenagers face felony charges after allegedly stealing a MARTA bus and taking it on a joyride while recording their misadventures on a cell phone.
Video obtained by FOX 5 shows the Jan. 18 incident, which took place at the transit agency's heavy maintenance plant on Browns Mill Road.
Jamair Moore and Harrison Crawford, both 18, were arrested and charged with criminal trespass, interference with govement property and criminal damage.
Union president Curtis Howard says the incident raises serious security conces.
"MARTA receives Homeland Security funds and things like that, so we want to know why they can't protect these bus operators and the garages and facilities," said Howard.
MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris told FOX 5 that the suspects apparently breached a security fence around 5 p.m., damaging several buses parked at the facility. In a written statement, Harris went on to say, "Although no one was hurt, MARTA has increased police patrols at all bus facilities and is conducting a thorough review of its current security measures."
Officials say the buses did not leave MARTA property during the incident.
