ATLANTA, Ga. - The state has awarded a contract to Tennessee-based prison operator Corrections Corporation of America to build a $57 million prison in east Georgia.

The facility will hold up to 1,150 prisoners in Jenkins County. It is set to open by 2012.

CCA, which is headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., will run the prison and manage the prisoners. The company already operates five prisons and detention centers in Georgia, employing about 1,500 workers.

CCA is the nation's largest private corrections management company, running more than 60 facilities in 19 states.
