Suspect Eric Demons in fatal hit-and-run of postal work to be in court
The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run is expected to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Police say Eric Demons hit and killed Cassandra Head as she walked across the street in a crosswalk on her way to work. Head was a 14-year veteran of the United States Postal service, a mother of five and a grandmother of 16.
Last week, Head's car was in the shop and rather than catch a ride with someone, she decided to walk to work at the post office. It was before dawn, and the roads were wet when a dark-colored SUV hit her as she tried to get across Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
After the accident, police say Demons called them and said he hit someone. He offered to tu himself in, but never did. Police tracked the 40-year-old down.
As Demons was led away in handcuffs, FOX 5 asked Demons if he had any words to say to the family. "I'm sorry," said Demons.
"Just so unexpected, just so unexpected. I couldn't…never imagined it," said Head's brother, Curtis Head.
Her second family at the post office is also mouing Head's death.
"She was the carrier that everyone loved. Loved her job. She loved coming to work," said a fellow postal worker.
Demons is being held in the Fulton County Jail. His court appearance is set for 11 a.m.
