DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A middle school student pointed a loaded gun at other students in DeKalb County on Thursday afteoon, school officials said.

The incident happened at Salem Middle School on Salem Road in Lithonia.

Security officials were able to wrestle the student to the ground before anyone was hurt, DeKalb County Schools spokesman Rodney Jenkins said. School security took the gun and the student into custody, Jenkins said.

School officials are sending a note home to parents. The school is not on lockdown because the situation has been handled, Jenkins said.
