ATLANTA -- A teacher’s assistant at Banneker High School, who also serves as an assistant football coach, is accused of pointing a BB gun at a player's head and jaw.

Kevin Pope faced a Fulton County judge Thursday on charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

The sophomore football player told Fulton County schools police that he had gotten bad grades and the coach got angry as a result.

Channel 2’s Ryan Young spoke to students off campus about the alleged incident.

”I can’t believe that. Not coach Pope, one student said.

”Coach Pope is a good person and I’ve known him for a long time. That’s not coach Pope, another student said.

”Sticking a BB gun? That doesn't sound like something he would do, student Shelby Harris said.

Pope's wife told Young that her husband tries to motivate kids and the teen who reported the incident has stayed at their house before.

”He was a good guy. I don’t believe it, said Harris.
