ATLANTA -- Hundreds of metro Atlantans woke up with no power Tuesday moing.

A Monday night storm knocked down trees and power lines across the area. At the height of the storm, 9,200 power outages were reported. Just before 6:30 a.m., Georgia Power reported 1,900 outages.

Channel 2’s Manuel Bojorquez went to northwest Atlanta, where crews were working to restore power to the area -- one of the hardest hit.

The fallen trees and power lines created a big backup for truck drivers who pick up and deliver in the area. A section of Marietta Road was shut down because of large trees down in two spots. The trees blocked access to many businesses along the road.

”It hurts really badly. But what can you do? Nature, you know what I mean," truck driver Antonio Bailey told Bojorquez.

Authorities said a truck got stuck between a fallen pole and the fallen lines, but the driver walked away safely. Utility crews worked for hours to clear the mess.

”There's about 20 or 30 [power lines] out on this street, but we're going to have them back, Georgia Power’s Mitch Myers said.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton waed residents that the severe weather was not over. More storms were expected over the next few days, starting Tuesday afteoon.

”We are going to watch today for some severe storms to develop, Minton said.

She said the storms could bring damaging wind and hail.

”With all of these storms, you get a powerful wind gust. Trees have been going down. They will do that again for the next couple days, Minton said.

She said Wednesday’s severe storm risk is compounded by the threat of toadoes. Sunshine is expected to retu the following day.
