Shooting Victim Drives For Help With Bullet In Head

NORCROSS, Ga. -- A bullet in the head didn’t stop a home invasion victim from driving to get help, Gwinnett police said.

The robbery happened at the Oakbrook Pointe apartments in Norcross early Thursday.

The victim was at his apartment when someone knocked on his door, police said. When he opened it, he was met by a robber, police said.

”The suspect immediately shot the victim in the head, and he fell to the ground, Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith told Channel 2’s Darryn Moore.

The shooter bypassed the victim and ransacked his apartment, Smith said. But after the robber was done, the victim got back up, Smith said.

”When the suspect left, the victim was in good enough condition to get into his car and drive to a friend’s house, Smith said.

The friend, who lived a block away, then called 911. Police arrived in time to talk to the victim about the attack, but they didn’t get a description of the shooter. Police are also not sure how many people were involved.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he is in critical condition.
