School employee John S. Bryan killed in Cobb County wreck

Kennesaw Mountain High School is mouing the loss of a beloved custodian. Police say John "Steve" Bryan, 51, was killed by a drunk driver after he left the school when his shift ended Wednesday night.

Cobb County police say two others were also injured in the wreck that happened at the 1700 block of Kennesaw Due West Road near Grant Circle at around 11 p.m.
    
According to investigators, Bryan was heading south on Kennesaw Due West Road in a gold 2000 Satu SW. They say a silver 2008 Suzuki Forenza, driven by Keven Inman, 29, was also heading south, and traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the rear of the Satu. Both vehicles ended up off the roadway.

Bryan was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital but did not survive his injuries, say police. Keven Inman, 29, and a passenger, Kelven Inman, 28, also sustained injuries. Kelven Inman was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Keven Inman was treated for serious injuries at the same hospital as Kelven. He was later transported to the Cobb County Jail and is facing several charges, including DUI and vehicular homicide.

The principal of the school, Kevin Daniel, said he was notified of the accident Wednesday night. Grief counselors were on hand at the school on Thursday.

School officials say Bryan had been a custodian with Cobb schools since 1999, and it was his first year at Kennestone Mountain. Officials at that school held a moment of silence in Bryan's honor on Thursday afteoon.

Bryan had previously worked at Allatoona High School, where he was loved and respected.

"Well he was good at his job, but he was always there for the kids and always to hear and listen to their stories," said teacher Ron Hojnowski.

"Steve was a caring person. He loved to talk," said fellow custodian China Blaylock.

Friends said that one of Bryan's sons passed away in the last year and that his wife is battling cancer.

"All through that, Steve remained steady and did his job and kept a good disposition and I admired him for that," said Scott Bursmith, Allatoona High's principal.

Bryan was also an umpire for Little League baseball games, according to a family member.
