Police say a pregnant woman was hit and killed by a truck in Southwest Atlanta

Ke'Anna Shields, 22, was hit by a Toyota pick-up truck while standing at a bus stop

Atlanta Police said a 58-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, hit another car, lost control and struck Shields. She  and her child died at the scene. Police said she was dragged into a field behind the bus stop. The man’s truck ended up along the tree line beyond the field. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition was not immediately known.



Family members at the scene said the Shields, known as Wookie, was expecting a girl in July and they were getting ready to celebrate her baby shower Saturday. Her husband of two weeks, who is in the military, was scheduled to retu home to spend the long holiday weekend with her.



Loved ones said Shields was valedictorian at Carver High School and was a few weeks away from graduating from nursing school.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
