Police: Teens carjack man, woman outside library
Police are looking for people who carjacked a man and a woman outside a northwest Atlanta library.
Andrew Hogans told reporters that he was leaving the Northside branch library on Northside Parkway and had only made it 15 feet or so into the parking lot when a young man pointed a gun at his head and threatened to kill him if he didn't tu over his belongings.
"I actually thought I was dead. That's the first time I've ever had a gun pulled on me," Hogans told reporters.
When reporter Viteri caught up with Hogans Thursday night, he was getting a rental car.
Police are searching for his car after they said four teens carjacked it, along with another woman's car in the parking lot at the Northside branch library.
Hogans was leaving the library when he said a young man pointed a gun at his face.
Police said the teens took his black Acura TL and carjacked a woman who was walking to her Lexus at the same time.
"One handled me with a pistol and I believe two of them had a pistol on her," Hogans said.
Police think this is the same group that carjacked someone at gunpoint on Estoria Street in the Cabbagetown neighborhood on Dec. 29.
Investigators said the teens took a white Volvo, which they ditched after Wednesday's carjacking.
Viteri saw police patrolling the library Thursday evening, which Lt. Rod Woody said is routine. He told Viteri officers had been through the lot minutes before Wednesday's crimes.
"The timing just didn't work out where we were there when the incident happened," Woody said.
Hogans said it was unusual and fortunate that no children were outside when the gunmen approached.
He said he has no doubt they're capable of hurting someone and hopes police find them first.
"I feel that he would've killed me. You don't put a gun on someone at any time unless you're prepared to use it," Hogans said.
Police recovered the woman's Lexus on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard in northwest Atlanta and are searching it for fingerprints.
Police told Viteri they believe the group of young men are connected to other crimes in the city and police are going to be meeting to try to tie all the incidents together.
