Police: Speed A Factor In Lilburn Ga Crash
LILBURN, Ga. -- The holiday weekend is proving to be a dangerous one on metro Atlanta roads.
Crews were called to a number of wrecks all over the area late Saturday night, into early Sunday moing.
A car crash in Lilbu was so loud neighbors said it woke them up in the middle of the night.
Emergency crews said two men in the car were taken to the hospital.
Police said the driver misjudged the curve and hit a tree, flipping and flattening the car.
One neighbor said the noise sounded like a concert in his backyard. ”We didn’t hear the skidding, we just heard the whoosh and then the thump when it hit the tree and the ho was stuck, neighbor Veon Peck said.
Neighbors said they called 911 and an off duty paramedic helped out until emergency crews arrived to take the men to the hospital.
”They’re in pretty dire straits there," Peck said.
The crash left the front of the car unrecognizable.
”It appears that speed was a factor in the accident and we’re also investigating to see if alcohol was involved as well, Lt. J.D. Parish with the Gwinnett County Police said.
The wreck happened on a weekend where police said they are out in force and drivers are reminded over and over to use caution.
Police said both men had extensive injuries but were expected to survive.
