Police shooting suspect Michael Hughey nabbed at hotel
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- After a massive manhunt, authorities nabbed a man they believe is responsible for shooting a DeKalb County police officer.
The shooting happened during a traffic stop Tuesday evening at Bouldercrest and Constitution roads. Police said the passenger, who had a warrant out for a drug probation violation, ran and engaged Officer Deron Fulton in a shootout. Fulton, 24, was hit in the back, but is expected to be OK.
Police used K-9 units and helicopters to search for the suspect, but he had fled. Around 3 a.m. Thursday, U.S. Marshals and DeKalb police tracked down 37-year-old Michael Hughey. Police said he was hiding out at a Value Inn and Suites hotel in Stockbridge.
After Hughey is interrogated, police said they will book him at the DeKalb County Jail on aggravated assault charges.
