Police: Shane Company Employee Sara Lane Tolar Stole Diamonds Worth $1.2 Million
Alpharetta police arrested a Shane Company employee on charges she stole jewelry worth about $1.2 million.
Shane Company representatives contacted Alpharetta authorities after a year-end audit revealed a large loss in merchandise had occurred, according to officials.
A tip from the owner of a jewelry store in Cobb County led to officials setting up a meeting with a suspect who wanted to sell some of the stolen merchandise.
Investigators arrested Sara Lane Tolar when she arrived for the meeting. Officials said Tolar admitted stealing jewelry over a five-month period. Numerous pieces of stolen diamond jewelry from the Shane Company were found in Tolar’s vehicle, according to authorities.
"It just confounds the investigators, the brazenness of this crime. In excess of 200 pieces of jewelry were stolen over that five-month period," said George Gordon with the Alpharetta Police Department.
Tolar has been charged by Cobb County authorities with felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property and theft by deception. She has also been charged by Alpharetta police with felony theft by forgery, theft by taking and theft by deception.
Tolar is being held without bond in the Cobb County Jail.
