Police ID cab driver found dead in Avondale Estates as Dedrick Darcelin, 42
Police are investigating a shooting at the Oak Creek apartments in Avondale Estates.

Police have identified a cab driver who was shot and killed early Friday moing in DeKalb County.

Police have identified the victim as Dedrick Darcelin. County police don’t have any witnesses but are hoping a camera in the Checker Cab taxi will lead to the man’s killer.

Police said residents reported hearing gunfire before Darcelin, 42, was found slumped over the wheel at the Oak Creek apartments in Avondale Estates. It happened around 2:30 a.m.

"Dedrick Darcelin has been associated with our company for about six years and was a very good cab driver, a genuine, nice guy and extended family of the Atlanta Checker Cab Company. Our prayers go out to him and his family," said Atlanta Checker Cab owner Rick Hewatt.

Police are investigating the case as a robbery.

 In addition, Atlanta Checker Cab will be offering a $2,000 reward for the capture and prosecution of the shooter in this incidence.
