Channel 2’s Tom Jones was at the scene when a fugitive squad arrested Anthony Williams, accused of shooting a man and wounding an officer.

The suspect's mother tued her son in and wanted our camera and reporter there to make sure police didn't harm him.

The arrest unfolded at the West Lake MARTA station.

Lawanda Williams told Jones that her faith in God moved her to tu her son in.

She feared officers would shoot her son, so she asked Channel 2 Action News to be there as well.

Jones was there when officers with high-powered weapons arrested Anthony Williams around noon.

”It's sad but I'm glad that he's alive. I'm glad there was no shootout with the officers, Lawanda Williams told Jones.

”That must have been difficult for you, Jones said.

”It was, Lawanda Williams said.

She told Jones someone called and said her son was involved in an incident that injured a man and a police officer early Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in southwest Atlanta.

Lawanda Williams said before that her son called and said he had been shot. She quickly put two and two together and called police.

”I just called them and said, 'I think this is my son,' Lawanda Williams said. ”I did not want to tu him in without media being here or us filming because I didn't want them to think it was us against them."

Police told Jones that they appreciated her help in making it a peaceful arrest.

”She made his apprehension as safe as possible, which is the outcome that we all wanted, Lt. Ricardo Vazquez, of the Atlanta Police Department, said.

Before Anthony Williams was taken away, his mother wiped away his tears and gave him a hug.

She also said a prayer.

”I pray he change his life around. I pray this lesson right here is the last one that he'll have to lea cause this is going to cost him, Lawanda Williams said.

Police are still trying to figure out why Anthony Williams shot a man who was in the car with him and then fired at officers when they arrived.

Anthony Williams was then shot twice but managed to escape.
