Parents rally around assistant principal accused of showing graphic pictures to student
Parents attended a meeting of the DeKalb County school board and showed their support for an assistant principal caught in a sexting controversy.

Parents attended a meeting of the DeKalb County school board and showed their support for an assistant principal caught in a sexting controversy.

The parents of students who attend DeKalb Elementary School of Arts said they don't want the educator fired.

"We don't feel that removing this particular assistant principal is in the best interest of the children," parent Jamal Jordan told Channel 2's GA Daily News.

The assistant principal is accused of showing a picture of a private part to a fifth-grader to see if she texted it to another student.

The child's mother said she and the parent of a student it was sent to determined she didn't send it.

The child's mother complained about the educator showing the graphic picture to her child.

Her supporters called for the principal to be fired.

The school system told Jones she is on leave pending an investigation.

The parents who support the assistant principal said there is no social media policy to guide teachers and administrators on what to do.

"There is no policy. There's no procedure on what a teacher or administrator how they handle this type of situation," Jordan said.

A DeKalb School system spokesman Walter Woods said the district does have a social media policy.

Woods said the board adopted one last week and sent it to all employees. But he said this issue has nothing to do with social media.

Woods said educators have to use common sense and know they can't show any graphic images to children.

Jordan said this is really about protecting the character of an educator who has given her life to kids.

"We know her intent was not malicious," Jordan said.
