Cherokee County deputy making a routine traffic stop tued into a major drug bust on Wednesday when over a pound of meth was found in a man's car.

Sheriff's office Spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said that the deputy made the stop on Highway 92 near Woodstock Road in Acworth.

Baker said the deputy had prior knowledge of the driver, 44-year-old Jose Valdez-Rodriguez, of Acworth and knew that he had a revoked driver's license.

He also had a warrant out for his arrest.

Valdez-Rodriguez was immediately placed under arrest  and the deputy found a small amount of meth in his pockets.

But the big surprise came during the subsequent search of the vehicle.

That's when deputies found over a pound of the dangerous drug inside. They also found a small amount of marijuana - less than an ounce - packaged for sale

Deputies charged the driver with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, driving with a revoked license and probation violation.

He is currently in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.
