Monroe County sheriff's deputy dies after shooting

Monroe County officials say one of two sheriff's deputies who was wounded in a shooting has died.

County Coroner Joey Proctor says Michael Norris was pronounced dead Sunday moing after being shot while he and another deputy were responding to a call about a suicidal man on Saturday night in Bolingbroke - about 15 miles northwest of Macon.

According to police, when deputies Norris and Wilson arrived on the scene, they exchanged gunfire with Christopher Keith Calmer, 46.

Proctor says Norris was shot in his head and a second deputy was wounded in his leg and arm. Authorities say the man who fired the shots has been taken into custody but his identity hasn't been released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting
