Police said they have a suspect in custody in the unusual break in at the McDonough Police Department earlier this week. Investigators said the suspect is someone who used to work there as an inmate trustee.

Authorities said Jamie Clark is in custody. They said Clark's job was to clean the police department building. Investigators said he was using his time to study the layout of police headquarters and then break into the police property room to steal guns and drugs.

"He took about 10 guns out of our evidence room and we have only recovered one," said McDonough Police Chief Preston Dorsey. "So we have about nine guns out there on the street."

The layout of McDonough's evidence room is top secret; only a handful of police staff members are allowed access.

Doresy said security around the evidence has already been stepped up.

As for Clark, he had already served his time. Now he is facing weapons, drugs and burglary charges with a possible jail term of 30 years.

"I've been in this business for about 25 years and I don't think I've ever heard of anybody breaking into a police department," said Doresy. "I've heard of people breaking out; never in."

Clark was denied bond at his hearing.
