MARTA board selects Keith Parker as new chief
Keith Parker

MARTA's executive board has selected a new CEO. After a nationwide search, MARTA announced Keith Parker as its next general manager and chief executive officer. He currently heads the transit system "VIA" in San Antonio, Texas.

Parker will immediately face several challenges.

A recent audit predicted MARTA will have a $114 million shortfall by 2016 and $248 million by 2021.

The audit also showed MARTA could exhaust its reserves within four years.

The vote was nine in favor of Parker and one abstention.

MARTA will now enter into contract negotiations with Parker.
