Blown tire causes fatal accident on I-75

Police say a blown tire on the interstate is to blame for a fatal accident Sunday evening.

According to the Marietta Police Department, Richeany Meas, 25, was driving a Honda Accord on Interstate 75 southbound just past the Delk Road exit. Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Meas had a tire blow out. The vehicle came to a stop and was rear ended by a Jeep, driven by 39-year-old Thomas Allan Jordan.

Police say Meas was ejected from the car.

Meas was transported to an area hospital in extreme critical condition and later died. There were two others in the car with Meas including the passenger Enrique Zavaleta, 27, and a 4-year-old child, who was properly restrained inside the vehicle. Both victims were also transported.

Jordan was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he remains in serious, but stable, condition.

All lanes of traffic were closed for about two hours due to the accident.

Police say no charges are expected in the incident.
