One of more than a dozen animals seized from a home in Lawrenceville after a couple was arrested on animal cruelty charges.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A Lawrenceville couple is facing animal cruelty charges, after police say they discovered more than a dozen malnourished dogs and cats at their home.

Justin and Buffy Sims were arrested following an investigation that began after a complaint from a neighbor, according to police. Officers went to the home on Forest Place. They say they found the animals living in unhealthy conditions.

Officers confiscated the animals, and took them to receive veterinary care. They say all of the animals had worms and were severely malnourished.

One of the animals has already been placed in a new home. Animal control officers say they will work to find adoptive homes for all of the animals.

Justin and Buffy Sims each face 14 counts of animal cruelty charges. They are being held at the Gwinnett County jail.
