Knife-wielding man shot by Clayton County officers

A knife-wielding man was shot by Clayton County police officers Monday afteoon after he allegedly threatened the officers.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. in the 6000 block of Yellow Wood Court, Clayton police spokeswoman Chanti Ashmore said in an e-mail.

Ashmore said officers responding to a demented person call found a man holding a knife to his throat, acting irrationally and making threatening comments, while buing items in his yard.

Officers made several unsuccessful attempts to talk the man into dropping the knife, but the suspect made threatening movements and verbal threats, which led to the officers using force, she said.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not available Monday night.

The incident is being investigated by the GBI.
